1. Program Overview
Program Name: AI Youth Innovators
Target Audience: Kids and teenagers (7-15 years old)
Vision: To empower the next generation with a balanced skillset for the future. We aim to foster healthier habits, reduce screen time, and cultivate essential life skills, while also equipping them with the knowledge to understand and leverage AI. Our goal is to create well-rounded individuals who are masters of technology, not slaves to it.
Program Structure: The program is divided into three core modules, which will be integrated into both after-school and holiday programs.
- Module 1: Outdoor & Life Skills - Led by Prasad and Melvin
- Module 2: AI & Computer Skills - Led by Tony and Melvin
- Module 3: Leadership & Teamwork - Integrated across all activities
Module 1: Outdoor & Life Skills
Objective: To develop practical life skills, resilience, and an appreciation for the outdoors. This module is inspired by the Scout and Cubs programs.
Activities:
- Outdoor Adventures:
- Hiking and nature walks
- Basic orienteering and map reading
- Knot tying and shelter building
- Camping basics (for holiday programs)
- Life Skills Workshops:
- Basic cooking skills (led by Melvin)
- First aid basics
- Gardening and understanding nature
- Team Challenges:
- Obstacle courses
- Team-based problem-solving games
Module 2: AI & Computer Skills
Objective: To demystify AI and teach fundamental computer skills. The focus is on understanding concepts and creative application, not just coding.
Activities:
- Computer Fundamentals:
- Understanding computer hardware and software
- Safe and effective internet usage
- Introduction to digital citizenship
- AI Unplugged:
- Interactive games and activities to explain AI concepts like machine learning, neural networks, and algorithms without using computers.
- AI in Action:
- Introduction to visual programming languages (e.g., Scratch) to create simple AI-powered games and stories.
- Workshops on using age-appropriate AI tools for creative projects (e.g., generating art, music, or stories).
- Understanding how AI is used in everyday life (e.g., recommendation systems, virtual assistants).
Module 3: Leadership & Teamwork
Objective: To cultivate leadership qualities, communication skills, and the ability to work effectively in a team. This module is woven into all activities.
Activities:
- Leadership Roles:
- Opportunities for older kids (like Melvin) to take on leadership roles as patrol leaders.
- Rotating leadership responsibilities within teams for activities.
- Collaborative Projects:
- Team-based projects in both outdoor and AI modules.
- Group presentations and sharing sessions.
- Mentorship:
- Older participants mentor younger ones.
After-School Program
Frequency: 2-3 times a week
Duration: 1.5 - 2 hours per session
Structure: A mix of activities from all three modules throughout the week.
Holiday Program
Frequency: Full-day or half-day camps during school holidays
Duration: 1-2 weeks
Structure: More immersive and project-based, with a focus on a larger project or a camping trip.
